One day I had a call from one of my long established clients, Jackie. She was organizing a party for her son Josh's 13th birthday. With just three days to go, Josh suddenly announced that he wanted a scavenger hunt. Jackie remembered playing this game at one of the parties I had organized for her five years previously and wanted me to organize another unforgettable scavenger hunt for Josh and her. Not only was the party only a few days away, but unfortunately, I already had a booking, and on the other side of the country so there was no way at all I could help. I hate not being able to help my clients - I do whatever it takes to deliver outstanding value and customer service but my hands were tied. I was having a sleepless night as a result when I thought "Wait - my parties are so organized and structured that they are effectively a step-by-step guarantee to a successful party". So as I was sitting on a plane at 30,000 feet, I wrote some basic notes into an email and sent them to Jackie.
The resulting party, even from my quickly scribbled notes, was to all accounts an outstanding success. In fact, this is the email I got back just a few days later:
