The art of tattoos originated from the Polynesian culture, in fact the word "Tattoo" comes from Polynesian roots, and it was used throughout the south pacific islands of Tahiti, Samoa, centuries ago. And from their point of view it was as sign of beauty and style. • Camouflage - the native warriors would cover themselves with dark and ominous tattoos in order to blend in with their surroundings when going to battle, and for the purpose of intimidating their enemy. • Respect – as mentioned above, the body art was often used as a sign of respect for the elders.
